Type your total follower count. For a reach-based rate, enter your post's reach or impressions instead of followers to measure engagement against the people who actually saw the content.
Enter the likes and comments from the specific post you want to measure. The tool adds these together as total engagements for the formula.
See your engagement rate as a percentage along with a performance rating. Compare it against platform benchmarks: 1 to 3% is solid on Instagram, 3 to 6% is strong, and above 6% is excellent.
Follower count grabs attention, but engagement rate is what marketers and brands actually trust. It measures how many people interact with your content relative to your audience size, and this calculator gives you the number in one tap using the standard formula: engagement rate equals likes plus comments, divided by followers, multiplied by 100. Enter your follower count and the likes and comments on a post, and you instantly get a clean percentage plus a rating that tells you where you stand. Why does this matter more than raw follower numbers? A creator with 10,000 highly engaged followers is often more valuable to a brand than one with 100,000 passive followers, because engagement signals a real, active community. It is the metric influencers put in media kits, the one brands screen for before sponsorships, and a reliable early warning sign when content stops resonating. Tracking it over time reveals which posts, formats, and topics genuinely connect with your audience. Run the numbers on two accounts. An account with 10,000 followers posts a photo that collects 250 likes and 50 comments. Add the interactions to get 300, divide by 10,000 to get 0.03, multiply by 100, and the engagement rate is 3.0% — solidly in the strong band. Now take an account ten times the size: 100,000 followers, a post with 800 likes and 100 comments. That is 900 interactions divided by 100,000, or 0.009, which is 0.9%. The bigger account collected three times the raw interactions and scored a third of the rate. Nothing is wrong with it; large accounts accumulate followers who drifted away, and the platform shows any single post to a smaller share of them. This is precisely why brands ask for the percentage rather than the like count. What counts as good depends on the platform and your size. As a rough guide, a rate around 1 to 3 percent is considered solid on Instagram, 3 to 6 percent is strong, and above 6 percent is excellent — while smaller accounts often post higher rates than large ones simply because a tight-knit audience interacts more. TikTok engagement tends to run higher than Instagram, and every niche has its own norms, so compare yourself to accounts of similar size in your field rather than to giant creators. The situations where this number decides something are concrete: a nano-influencer with 8,000 followers building a media kit needs an average across her last twelve posts, not her best one. A brand manager screening four creators for a ₹50,000 campaign uses the rate to spot the one whose followers were bought. A café owner posting daily wants to know whether Reels or carousels earn more interaction per follower before committing to video. A creator whose reach suddenly halved checks whether engagement fell too, which tells her whether it is a reach problem or a content problem. A couple of practical notes: this calculator uses likes and comments against your total follower count, which is the most common method, but some marketers prefer measuring against reach or impressions instead — useful when your posts travel well beyond your followers. If you want that version, simply enter your reach in the followers field. Everything runs instantly in your browser with nothing uploaded, so you can check post after post, build a benchmark, and track your growth privately and for free. One pitfall trips up almost everyone comparing themselves to others: a rate calculated against reach will always look higher than one calculated against followers, so two creators quoting different methods are not comparable at all. Ask which denominator was used before you trust anyone's number, including your own from six months ago. Also avoid judging a single post — one viral photo can double your monthly average and tell you nothing repeatable. Average at least ten recent posts before drawing a conclusion.
Engagement rate = (likes + comments) ÷ followers × 100 likes = number of likes on the post comments = number of comments on the post followers = total follower count (or substitute reach/impressions for a reach-based rate) × 100 converts the ratio into a percentage Example: (250 + 50) ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 3.0%
Input
Followers: 10,000, Likes: 250, Comments: 50
Result
Engagement rate: 3.0% — rated Strong
(250 + 50) ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 3.0%. A rate in the 3 to 6% range indicates an active, engaged community.
Input
Followers: 100,000, Likes: 800, Comments: 100
Result
Engagement rate: 0.9% — rated Below Average
(800 + 100) ÷ 100,000 × 100 = 0.9%. Larger accounts often have lower rates because not all followers see every post.
Add your likes and comments, divide by your follower count, then multiply by 100 to get a percentage. This calculator does it automatically — just enter your followers, likes, and comments, and it shows your engagement rate along with a rating instantly.
