Drop image or browse
JPG, PNG, WebP — up to 10MB
Drag and drop your JPG, PNG, or WebP image (up to 10 MB) onto the drop zone, or click to browse. All common formats are accepted and the image loads locally in your browser, so nothing is sent to a server before you crop.
Pick a shape (Circle, Oval, Rounded, Square, or Rectangle), an aspect ratio, a social preset, or a document size. Drag the crop handles to frame your subject, and use rotate, flip, and the rule-of-thirds grid to fine-tune the composition. You can also type exact dimensions.
Choose your output format and click Download. Shape crops (circle, oval, rounded) always export as a transparent PNG so the corners stay see-through, while rectangle and square crops keep full lossless quality in any format you pick.
Cropping means cutting an image down to a chosen region — trimming away distracting edges, changing the aspect ratio, or isolating a subject. This cropper goes past the plain rectangle most tools stop at, offering five shapes: Rectangle, Square (1:1 locked), Circle, Oval, and Rounded Rectangle with an adjustable corner radius. People crop constantly: to make a square profile photo, to fit a 16:9 YouTube thumbnail, to knock a face into a circular avatar, or to size a photo to a passport frame. Because it all runs in your browser, the crop is instant and your image is never uploaded. Technically, your image is drawn onto an HTML canvas and the tool copies only the selected region into a new canvas at the same pixel resolution — no re-encoding of untouched areas, so a rectangular crop is effectively lossless. Shape crops add one more step: the tool applies a clip path (a circle, ellipse, or rounded-rectangle mask) before drawing, and everything outside the mask becomes transparent. Since transparency only survives in formats with an alpha channel, circle, oval, and rounded crops always export as PNG. JPEG cannot hold an alpha channel at all, which is the real reason a circular crop saved as JPG would come back with an opaque box around it. Rectangular crops from a JPEG source do involve one re-encode, so keeping quality high on export avoids stacking fresh compression on top of the original. As with any canvas operation, EXIF metadata does not carry into the exported file. You can crop by dragging handles, by picking one of nine aspect-ratio presets, or by typing exact dimensions in pixels, inches, centimeters, or millimeters, and a rule-of-thirds grid helps you compose. Here is a concrete walkthrough. Start with a 4000×3000 landscape photo and choose the 1:1 square ratio. Drag the selection to 2400×2400 over the part you want to keep, and the export is a crisp 2400×2400 image with no quality loss on the kept pixels. Switch to the Circle shape on that same crop and you get a 2400×2400 transparent PNG where the corners outside the circle are see-through — drop it onto any background and there are no white boxes. Choose Rounded Rectangle with the radius at 20% instead, and you get an app-icon-style image with softly rounded corners, again as a transparent PNG. The real-world uses are specific. Circle crops make clean profile pictures for social platforms, forums, and team pages that display avatars as circles. Rounded crops produce app icons and UI tiles without opening a design tool. Aspect-ratio presets let you crop one photo into a 1:1 Instagram post, a 9:16 story, and a 16:9 thumbnail so a single shot serves three placements. Document presets like Passport and A4 crop photos to the exact ratio an application or print job expects, so nothing important gets cut off when the image is placed. Good cropping is as much about what you remove as what you keep — tightening the frame around your subject removes dead space and draws the eye. A common mistake is cropping too tight and clipping the top of a head or the edge of a product; leave a little breathing room, and use the grid to place key elements on the gridlines rather than dead center. Remember that shape crops must be PNG to keep transparency, and that cropping reduces the visible area but does not enlarge anything — you cannot recover pixels outside the original frame, so crop from the largest version of the photo you have rather than a downsized copy. Everything is processed locally in your browser using canvas, so your images are never uploaded to a server and clear from memory the moment you close the tab.
Input
4000×3000 photo cropped to a 1:1 square at 2400×2400
Result
A crisp 2400×2400 image with no quality loss on the kept pixels
The tool copies only the selected square region into a new canvas at the same resolution, so the cropped area stays pixel-perfect.
Input
Same square crop switched to the Circle shape
Result
A 2400×2400 transparent PNG with the corners outside the circle erased
A circular clip path masks the image before export and forces PNG output so the transparent corners survive.
Upload your image, go to the Shapes tab, select 'Circle'. The aspect ratio locks to 1:1 automatically. Position the crop area over the part you want, then download. The output is a transparent PNG with a perfect circular mask — ideal for profile pictures.
