Type the base price if you want to add GST, or the tax-inclusive total if you want to remove it. Choose the matching mode so the tool knows whether to add tax on top or work backwards to the pre-tax figure.
Pick the applicable slab — 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28% — based on the item's HSN or SAC code. If you are unsure which slab applies, check the official GST rate finder, as the correct rate depends on the specific goods or service.
Click Calculate to instantly see the GST amount, the equal CGST and SGST split for an in-state sale (or IGST for inter-state), and the final total. Copy the figures straight into your invoice or budget.
GST, or Goods and Services Tax, is India's unified indirect tax on most goods and services, levied under the framework established by the Goods and Services Tax Council, India, and charged as a percentage on top of a product's base price. A GST calculator does the two things people actually need at a till or on an invoice: it adds GST to a pre-tax price to give the final amount payable, and it strips GST out of a tax-inclusive price to reveal the original base. This tool covers every common Indian slab — 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% — and also splits the tax into its components. Shop owners raising invoices, freelancers billing clients, small businesses filing returns, and everyday shoppers who want to know how much tax sits inside a marked price all rely on getting these figures right. The arithmetic runs in two directions. To add GST, you multiply the base price by the rate and divide by 100, then add that tax back to the base. To remove GST from an inclusive amount, you divide the total by (1 + the rate written as a decimal) to recover the base, and the difference is the tax portion. The variables are just the amount you type and the rate you pick. For an intra-state sale the total GST is split equally into CGST (collected by the central government) and SGST (collected by the state), each being half the rate; for an inter-state sale a single IGST equal to the full rate applies instead. A concrete example makes it click. Take a product with a base price of ₹2,000 at the 18% slab. The GST is 2,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹360, so the final price is ₹2,360. Because it is an in-state sale, that ₹360 splits into ₹180 CGST and ₹180 SGST. Now reverse it: if a customer hands you a GST-inclusive ₹2,360 and you need the pre-tax value, divide 2,360 by 1.18 to get exactly ₹2,000, confirming the ₹360 of tax. That reverse step is the one people most often get wrong by naively subtracting 18% of the inclusive total. The tool fits many real workflows. A retailer preparing a tax invoice needs the base, the CGST/SGST split, and the total shown separately for a compliant bill, since a GST invoice must display these components. A freelancer quoting a client wants to know the all-in figure before sending it, so the client is not surprised by tax added later. A small business reconciling accounts at month-end separates base from tax to claim input tax credit correctly, because credit is claimed on the tax portion alone. A shopper comparing an inclusive shelf price with a quoted pre-tax price can check whether an online deal is really cheaper once tax is added. And an exporter or inter-state seller needs to know when IGST applies instead of the CGST/SGST split, which changes how the tax is reported. A few points keep you out of trouble. That common mistake — subtracting the rate directly from an inclusive price — always overstates the base; you must divide by (1 + rate), not subtract. The correct slab depends on the specific item and its HSN code for goods or SAC code for services, and the GST Council revises rates from time to time, so a slab that fits today may change. This calculator gives accurate arithmetic for whichever rate you select, but it is a calculation aid, not tax or legal advice; for classification, exemptions, or filing, consult a qualified chartered accountant. One more trap catches new sellers: rounding each line item to the nearest rupee before totalling can leave an invoice a rupee or two off the sum of its parts, so round once at the end. Composition-scheme dealers and reverse-charge supplies also follow different rules and cannot simply apply the slab this way. Everything runs in your browser, so your figures are never uploaded or stored.
Add GST: tax = base price × rate ÷ 100; final price = base price + tax Remove GST: base price = inclusive total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100); tax = inclusive total − base price CGST = SGST = total GST ÷ 2 (for a sale within one state) IGST = full GST rate (for a sale between two states)
Input
Base price ₹2,000 at 18% GST (add GST)
Result
GST ₹360 (CGST ₹180 + SGST ₹180); final price ₹2,360
2,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = 360, added to the base gives 2,360; for an in-state sale the 360 splits equally.
Input
GST-inclusive price ₹2,360 at 18% (remove GST)
Result
Base price ₹2,000; GST ₹360
2,360 ÷ 1.18 = 2,000, and the remaining 360 is the tax — you divide by 1 + rate rather than subtracting 18%.
Enter the base price and select the GST rate — 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28% — in Helperzy GST Calculator, then click Calculate to see the GST amount and the final price including tax. You can also switch to remove-GST mode to work backwards from an inclusive total. The calculation is instant and runs entirely in your browser.
