What an Email Extractor Does and How Addresses Are Detected

This scans a block of text and pulls out every email address inside it. The point is to replace the slow, error-prone job of reading a long document and copying addresses one at a time. Office administrators do it with meeting notes and forwarded threads. Event organisers do it with a pasted registration dump. Researchers do it with survey free-text responses where people typed their contact details into the wrong field. HR teams do it with a directory pasted out of an internal wiki. What comes back is a clean, deduplicated list you can copy or download as CSV. Detection uses a regular expression matching the standard address shape: a local part, an @ sign, a domain name, a dot and a top-level domain of two or more letters. The pattern is deliberately tolerant of surrounding context, so it finds addresses sitting inside a sentence, tucked into an email signature, wrapped in angle brackets, or trailing a full stop at the end of a line. Once matched, each address is normalised for comparison by lowercasing it, which is how the deduplication treats User@Mail.com and user@mail.com as one entry — though the version shown to you keeps its original form. Results can be sorted alphabetically and exported as CSV for a spreadsheet or a contact import. Everything is a single pass over the text in your browser. A worked run. Lowercasing for comparison gives priya.sharma@acme.co.in, assistant@acme.co.in and priya.sharma@acme.co.in again, so the third is a duplicate of the first and gets dropped. Two unique addresses come out. Notice two details: the closing bracket and the full stop after the second address are not swallowed into it, and the mixed capitalisation on Assistant did not create a false second contact. Specific situations. A conference coordinator pastes 90 forwarded RSVP replies and gets the attendee list in seconds. A university department extracts student addresses from a pasted enrolment table where the columns did not survive the copy. A support lead pulls every address mentioned in a long ticket thread to check who was actually looped in. A small agency recovering from a spreadsheet crash extracts contacts from an exported plain-text backup. A journalist collecting press contacts from a set of published bios builds a source list without retyping. A landlord pulling tenant addresses out of a year of email correspondence assembles a notification list for a building repair, and the deduplication saves them from sending three notices to the flat that emailed most often. A club secretary compiling a members list from years of reply-all threads gets the whole roster in one pass instead of scrolling back through several hundred archived messages by hand. Paste everything at once rather than in chunks, since a single pass over a long document is both faster and less likely to miss an address split across your chunk boundary. Two limits deserve plain statements. The pattern recognises the shape of an address, not its existence — a typo like rahul@gmial.com matches perfectly and is completely useless, so verify before a real send. And the legal point matters more than the technical one: extracting addresses you already have a relationship with or permission to use is fine, but harvesting addresses to send unsolicited bulk mail breaches CAN-SPAM, GDPR and India's own regulations, and mailbox providers will blacklist the sending domain regardless. Only contact people who consented, and always offer an unsubscribe. Scanning runs in your browser, so the text you paste is never uploaded, stored or logged.
