Add the PDF whose page size you want to change. It loads directly in your browser with no upload to any server, and the tool reads how many pages it contains so you know the whole document will be resized in one operation.
Pick a preset like A4, Letter, or A3, or enter a custom width and height in millimetres or inches. Set portrait or landscape, then choose Fit to keep everything visible or Fill to cover the sheet, and adjust the margin if you want a clean frame.
Click Resize and the tool embeds each page with pdf-lib, scales it by a single uniform factor so nothing distorts, and centres it on the new page. Your resized PDF downloads at once with text still selectable and quality preserved throughout.
A PDF page resizer changes the physical page size of a document, moving it from one standard like A4 to another like US Letter, or to a custom size you type in millimetres or inches. This matters more than it first appears. A printer loaded with Letter paper will clip or refuse an A4 file, a print shop may reject a poster that is a few millimetres off A3, and a submission portal often demands one exact page size. The people who reach for this tool are the ones caught between standards: an author sending a manuscript to a US publisher who needs Letter, a student whose university template is A4 while their file came out as Legal, a designer downsizing an A3 proof to A4 for a client review, or anyone preparing a file for a printer that only holds one paper size. The method is careful by design. Using pdf-lib, the tool embeds each original page as a reusable object, then creates a fresh page at your chosen size and draws the original into it. The key is the scale factor: it computes the ratio of the target width to the source width and the ratio of the target height to the source height, then in Fit mode takes the smaller of the two so the whole page always fits inside the new dimensions, and in Fill mode takes the larger so the page covers the sheet edge to edge. Because a single uniform scale is applied to both axes, the content is never stretched or squashed, and the result is centred so any leftover space appears as an even border. Vector text and lines stay razor sharp because they are redrawn, not rasterised. Here is a concrete walkthrough. Say you have an A4 document, 595.28 by 841.89 points, that a US colleague needs as Letter, 612 by 792 points. You pick the Letter preset and leave the mode on Fit. The tool computes 612 divided by 595.28, which is about 1.028, and 792 divided by 841.89, which is about 0.941, then chooses the smaller value, 0.941, so the height never overflows. Every page is scaled to roughly 94 percent and centred on the Letter sheet, leaving thin equal margins left and right. Nothing is cut off, the text is still selectable, and the file downloads in a second or two. Add a 20-point margin and the scale simply recomputes against the smaller inner area, so your content sits inside a clean frame. Real situations show up constantly. A self-publishing author in Bengaluru converts an A4 interior to 6 by 9 inch trim size before uploading to a print-on-demand service that only accepts that dimension. An architect shrinks an A3 drawing set to A4 so a client can print it on a home printer without an oversize plotter. A teacher standardises a stack of worksheets that arrived as a mix of Letter and A4 into a single A4 handout so the school copier runs one clean job. A job applicant resizes a Legal-format certificate down to A4 to match the rest of an application packet, keeping every seal and signature fully visible. In each case the alternative, printing and rescanning, would lose quality and waste time. A few habits prevent surprises. Choose Fit whenever keeping all content visible matters, and reserve Fill for cases where you genuinely want the page edge to edge and can accept a sliver being trimmed. Set the orientation to match your source, because forcing a landscape drawing into a portrait target will letterbox it with large empty bands. The common mistake is expecting the resizer to re-flow text to the new page the way a word processor would; it does not, it scales the page as a single image of content, so a two-column layout stays two columns, just larger or smaller. Two limits are worth naming: resizing does not change the resolution of embedded photos, and an encrypted PDF has to be unlocked first. Everything happens locally through pdf-lib, so a contract, a certificate, or an unpublished manuscript never leaves your browser or touches a server.
Input
An A4 document (595.28 x 841.89 pt) resized to US Letter (612 x 792 pt) in Fit mode
Result
Each page scaled to about 94% and centred on Letter, with thin equal side margins and no cropping
Fit picks the smaller ratio (792/841.89 = 0.941) so the taller A4 height fits inside Letter without cutting off any content.
Input
An A3 drawing (841.89 x 1190.55 pt) resized down to A4 (595.28 x 841.89 pt)
Result
Every page shrunk to about 71% and centred on A4, fully visible for home printing
The uniform 0.707 scale keeps the aspect ratio, so the drawing stays proportional while fitting a smaller sheet.
