Team shuffling runs entirely in your browser. Your list of names is never uploaded.
Enter one name per line — paste straight from a spreadsheet, document, or chat. Blank lines are ignored and extra spaces are trimmed automatically.
Pick 'Number of teams' to divide everyone into a set number of groups, or 'Team size' to make as many groups of a given size as possible. When it does not divide evenly, extras are distributed fairly.
Click Generate. The tool shuffles everyone randomly and divides them into balanced teams. Copy the full result — team headings and members — with one click for pasting into a message or scoreboard.
Whether you are organizing a sports match, a classroom activity, a game night, or a work exercise, dividing people into teams by hand is slow and always sparks arguments about fairness. The Helperzy Random Team Generator removes the bias: paste your list of names, choose how you want to split them, and it shuffles everyone randomly before dividing them into balanced groups. You can split two ways. Choose by number of teams (for example, make 4 teams) and the tool distributes everyone as evenly as possible across that many groups. Or choose by team size (for example, teams of 5) and it creates as many groups of that size as your list allows. When the numbers do not divide perfectly, the remaining people are spread across the teams one at a time so no single team ends up unfairly large — the sizes never differ by more than one. Work through both modes with real counts. Paste ten names and ask for two teams: the list is shuffled, then dealt out alternately, giving five and five — say Team 1 with Alice, Charlie, Erik, Grace and Ivan, and Team 2 with Bob, Diana, Frank, Hannah and Jake. Ten divided by two is exact, so nothing is left over. Now paste seven names and choose a team size of three instead. Seven divided by three is two full groups with one person remaining, so you get Team 1 with three, Team 2 with three, and Team 3 with the last one. That is the difference between the two modes worth understanding: fixing the number of teams guarantees even sizes, while fixing the team size can leave a short final group. If a lone third team is no use to you, switch to the number-of-teams mode and ask for two, which would give you four and three. The shuffle uses a proper randomization so each arrangement is genuinely mixed, not just sorted in input order. This makes it great for pickup sports, group projects, secret-santa-style splits, trivia nights, workshops, and any situation where you want an impartial draw. Names are trimmed and blank lines are ignored, so you can paste straight from a spreadsheet or chat without cleaning up first. The situations are specific: a PE teacher splitting 32 students into four relay teams in the two minutes before the bell. A team lead assigning 18 people to six project groups where the same three friends always cluster together if left to choose. A Sunday football group of 11 that needs a 6-and-5 split without the two best players ending up on the same side by habit. A trivia host putting walk-in guests into tables of four as they arrive. Once the teams are generated you can copy the whole result — team headings and members — to your clipboard in one click, ready to paste into a message, document, or scoreboard. Click shuffle again to get a completely fresh set of teams. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your list of names is never uploaded, stored, or shared, and the tool works instantly even offline. Worth being honest about one limitation: random and balanced are not the same thing. The tool balances headcount, not ability, so in a sport where skill varies widely a purely random split can hand one side an obvious advantage. If that matters, split your list into two tiers first, run the generator on each tier separately, then merge the results — you keep the impartiality and lose the lopsided match. Also generate before you announce; re-rolling after people have seen the teams is how a fair method loses its credibility.
Input
10 names, split into 2 teams
Result
Team 1: Alice, Charlie, Erik, Grace, Ivan — Team 2: Bob, Diana, Frank, Hannah, Jake
The names are shuffled randomly then distributed 5 and 5 so both teams are balanced, with a genuinely mixed arrangement each time.
Input
7 names, team size of 3
Result
Team 1 (3), Team 2 (3), Team 3 (1) — the extra person is placed in the last group
When the total does not divide perfectly, the remainder is spread so sizes never differ by more than one person.
Paste your list of names (one per line), choose whether to split by number of teams or by team size, and click Generate. The tool shuffles everyone randomly and divides them into balanced groups you can copy in one click.
