Enter the short word or phrase you want corrupted. Two or three words is the sweet spot, since longer strings become unreadable and are more likely to be filtered.
Drag the intensity control to decide how many combining marks stack on each character. Start low and raise it gradually until the effect looks deliberate rather than merely broken.
Copy the glitched text into your post, channel name or caption, then check it survived the platform's filters and did not get stripped or truncated on the way in.
Zalgo text is the corrupted, dripping, spilling-over-its-line effect you have seen in horror memes and creepypasta posts. The name comes from a 2004 internet meme about a character called Zalgo, and the visual style became shorthand for something going wrong at a fundamental level. People use it for Halloween posts, horror-game usernames, glitch-aesthetic album art captions, meme punchlines that need to look unhinged, and Discord channel names in gaming servers. An intensity control lets you go from a faint fuzz around the letters to a complete mess that swallows the lines above and below. The mechanism is a deliberate abuse of a legitimate Unicode feature. Combining diacritical marks exist so that any base letter can carry an accent, a tilde, a cedilla, a dot above or a hook below — that is how scripts with heavy diacritics are encoded. Crucially, the standard puts no limit on how many marks can stack on one character. The generator picks randomly from three groups: marks that render above the letter, marks that render through it, and marks that render below. Then it attaches a number of them to every character you typed, with the count driven by your intensity setting. At low intensity a letter might carry one or two marks; at high intensity it might carry fifteen, and the stacks grow tall enough to overlap neighbouring lines of text. A worked example. Type the word doom at low intensity and each of the four letters picks up roughly two marks, so the string contains about twelve codepoints for four visible letters and the result looks slightly frayed. Raise the intensity to maximum and each letter takes perhaps fifteen marks, pushing the same four letters to around sixty-four codepoints, and the output climbs vertically across the surrounding lines. That is the trade-off to understand: the visual chaos is directly proportional to string length, so a heavy zalgo phrase can be twenty times longer than what you see and will blow through any character limit. Where it gets used. A horror game streamer sets a channel title in zalgo for a Halloween broadcast. A meme account renders a punchline in corrupted text so the joke lands visually before you read it. A Discord server owner names a spooky-themed channel in glitch text. A band with a noise aesthetic captions a release announcement in zalgo. A tabletop game master drops a corrupted line into a play-by-post thread when an eldritch entity speaks, which does more atmospheric work than a paragraph of description ever would. A film society posts a screening announcement for a horror season with the title glitched and the date left in plain text so people can still read it. Go lighter than instinct suggests. Low intensity on a couple of words reads as intentional and unsettling; maximum intensity on a full sentence just looks broken and often gets rejected or stripped by the platform. That is the judgement call people get wrong first time. Three real limitations. Many apps now filter or truncate long combining-mark runs specifically because zalgo was used to break layouts and disrupt chats, so your post may not survive. Screen readers attempt to announce every mark, which produces an unusable stream of noise for a visually impaired reader — never put anything meaningful in zalgo. And the vertical overflow genuinely overlaps other people's text in a shared feed, which is why some communities ban it outright as disruptive rather than decorative. Check the rules of the server or forum before posting rather than after a moderator removes it. Generation runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded, stored or logged.
Input
doom at low intensity, then at maximum intensity
Result
Low: about 12 codepoints for 4 visible letters, lightly frayed · Maximum: around 64 codepoints, marks overflowing onto neighbouring lines
Each letter receives roughly two combining marks at low intensity and about fifteen at maximum, so the codepoint count is the letter count multiplied by the marks per letter plus the letters themselves.
Type your text and set the intensity, and the corrupted version appears as you type. Combining diacritical marks are attached to each character, so the effect is carried by the string itself and survives copy and paste.
