Choose the first date with the picker, checking the day and month order carefully since a DD/MM entry read as MM/DD shifts the whole result silently.
Select the second date you want to measure against. It can sit in the past or the future, so the same tool handles countdowns and elapsed-time questions equally well.
Read the gap as total days plus a years-months-days breakdown, weeks, and hours. Add one day yourself if your purpose requires counting both endpoints.
A date difference calculator measures the exact gap between two calendar dates. You pick a start and an end, and it reports the span as a total number of days, then breaks the same span into years, months, and days, plus weeks and total hours. The reason a tool exists for something that sounds like subtraction is that the calendar refuses to cooperate: months run 28 to 31 days, February gains a day every fourth year, and counting across a year boundary in your head almost always lands you a day or two off. Project managers checking a delivery window, HR staff working out a notice period, students counting down to an exam, and anyone filling in a visa form that demands an exact number of days all need a figure they can trust. The method works directly on the calendar rather than approximating. For the total, the tool converts each date to a day count and subtracts, so every leap day between them is included automatically. For the years-months-days breakdown it works in order: count complete years from the start date, then whole months from the last completed anniversary, then the leftover days. The variables are just the two dates and, implicitly, the calendar rules for month lengths and leap years. Weeks come from dividing the total days by seven, giving whole weeks plus remainder days, and hours are simply the total days multiplied by 24 for same-time-of-day comparisons. Here is a worked case. Start on 15 January 2024 and end on 25 December 2024. The total is 345 days. Broken down, that is 11 complete months from 15 January to 15 December, then 10 more days to 25 December — so 0 years, 11 months, 10 days. In weeks it is 49 weeks and 2 days, and in hours 8,280. Try a longer span: 1 March 2020 to 15 August 2024 comes to 1,628 days, or 4 years, 5 months, and 14 days. Note that 2020 and 2024 both contained a 29 February, and both are already counted in that 1,628 — the sort of detail hand-counting quietly drops. The situations where this matters are concrete. An employee serving a 90-day notice period enters their resignation date and the calculated last working day to confirm the two match before signing anything. A freelancer invoicing for a retainer that ran from 12 March to 4 September needs the exact day count to pro-rate the fee. A student on a visa that permits 180 days in a country counts the days already spent to see how many remain. A couple planning an anniversary trip works out that their wedding was 4 years and 7 months ago and picks a date accordingly. A contractor tracking a penalty clause counts the days a project overran, since each one carries a cost. One detail causes most disputes: whether the final day counts. A stay from 1 to 10 June is 9 days by subtraction but 10 days if you count both the arrival and departure dates, and hotels, notice periods, and immigration rules each pick a different convention. Decide which you need and add one if both endpoints should count. A second trap is reading months as a simple division by 30 — 90 days is not always three calendar months, and a contract that says three months may end on a different day than a contract that says 90 days. Also confirm the date format before trusting the answer, because a DD/MM entry read as MM/DD silently shifts everything. The calculation runs entirely in your browser, so the dates you enter are never uploaded or stored.
Total days = end date − start date (measured on the calendar, so every leap day between them is included) Years/months/days breakdown: count complete years first, then whole months from the last anniversary, then the leftover days Weeks = total days ÷ 7 (whole weeks plus remainder days) Hours = total days × 24 start date = the earlier date you select end date = the later date you select To count both endpoints inclusively, add 1 to the total days.
Input
Start 15 January 2024, end 25 December 2024
Result
345 days = 11 months 10 days = 49 weeks 2 days = 8,280 hours
From 15 Jan to 15 Dec is 11 complete months, then 10 more days to 25 Dec. 345 ÷ 7 = 49 weeks with 2 days left, and 345 × 24 = 8,280 hours.
Input
Start 1 March 2020, end 15 August 2024
Result
1,628 days = 4 years 5 months 14 days
Four complete years reach 1 March 2024, five more months reach 1 August 2024, then 14 days to 15 August. The 29 February in both 2020 and 2024 is already counted in the 1,628 total.
