Pick any date using the date picker, which defaults to today. You can choose dates far in the past or future to plan or look back. The tool converts your choice using the ISO 8601 rules.
The tool shows the ISO 8601 week number together with the correct ISO week-year. Watch the week-year around New Year, since early January can still belong to the previous year. This pairing removes any ambiguity about which week you mean.
View the weekday and the day-of-year alongside the week number for full context. This helps when filling timesheets or coordinating with teams that schedule by week. Change the date to instantly recalculate for any other day.
The Helperzy Week Number Calculator tells you which week of the year any date falls in, using the international ISO 8601 standard rather than a rough count from January. Across much of Europe, and in payroll, manufacturing, logistics, and project planning worldwide, people refer to dates simply as 'week 32' or 'CW14', and this tool translates any calendar date into that shorthand. Enter a date and it returns the week number, the ISO week-year it belongs to, the weekday, and the day of the year, giving you the full context in one glance. The rule that defines an ISO week is precise. Weeks always start on Monday, and week 1 of a year is the week that contains that year's first Thursday — which is the same as saying it is the week containing January 4. In plain terms, whichever Monday-to-Sunday week holds the 4th of January becomes week 1, and the weeks are numbered up from there. A direct consequence is that the ISO week-year can differ from the calendar year at the edges: the first days of January may still belong to the last week of the previous year, and the final days of December may already sit in week 1 of the next. The calculator always shows the correct week-year so there is no ambiguity. Here is a concrete case that catches people out. Take 1 January 2021. That Friday sits in the Monday-to-Sunday week running from 28 December 2020 to 3 January 2021, and because that week's Thursday is 31 December 2020, the whole week counts as the last week of 2020. So the tool reports 1 January 2021 as ISO week 53 of 2020, not week 1 of 2021. Move forward to 4 January 2021 and it correctly becomes week 1 of 2021, because that Monday starts the week holding January 4. The rule works at the other edge too. The week of Monday 28 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027 has its Thursday on 31 December 2026, so the whole week — including the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of January 2027 — is counted as week 53 of 2026. That makes 2026 one of the long years with 53 weeks rather than 52. The result matters in real work. Teams that schedule by week number use it to line up deadlines across countries without arguing over date formats. A German supplier quoting a delivery for KW32 leaves an Indian buyer needing the actual dates before booking freight. A contract manufacturer schedules a production run for week 14 and its logistics partner must know that means 30 March to 5 April in 2026. A payroll clerk reconciling a fortnightly cycle tags timesheet hours to weeks 18 and 19 rather than to month boundaries that split a pay period. An agile team labels sprints by ISO week so nobody has to translate between date formats in a standup. Being able to convert any date instantly saves you from counting squares on a wall calendar. A subtle limitation worth knowing: an ISO year has either 52 or 53 weeks depending on how the days fall, and only years that begin on a Thursday, or on a Wednesday in a leap year, get 53. The calculator works this out automatically and uses a timezone-safe approach, so the answer does not shift depending on where you happen to be sitting. It defaults to today so you can read the current week at once, then pick any past or future date to plan well ahead. All the maths runs locally in your browser, and nothing you enter is uploaded.
ISO week 1 = the Monday-to-Sunday week that contains the year's first Thursday Equivalent rule: the week containing 4 January is always week 1 Week start = Monday (ISO weekday 1); week end = Sunday (ISO weekday 7) Week number range = 1 to 52, or 1 to 53 in a long year ISO week-year = the year that owns the week, which can differ from the calendar year in late December or early January 53-week years = those starting on a Thursday, or on a Wednesday in a leap year
